On the south side of the main building of the Guanshanhu District Ecological Civilization Exhibition Hall, in the park of the same name in Guiyang, the 'Chunyan' (春檐) greenhouse is a small glazed structure devoted to the rainforest. Built in 2025 with the support of the South China Botanical Garden, an institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it holds a constant 25 °C and, according to a May 2026 press release, gathers 60 plant categories, among them five protected wild species of the first class and seven of the second class. The release compares it to a small room.

History
The 'Chunyan' greenhouse is a recent addition to the site of the Guanshanhu District Ecological Civilization Exhibition Hall. According to People's Daily (Guizhou channel, 29 May 2025), the hall, the first of its kind in the province and the first at district level, was completed and opened free of charge on 16 June 2023. A second building phase, launched in late March 2025 and due to end in early June, added outdoor education areas: a butterfly-habitat garden, a wetland for water birds and a lakeshore garden.
A press release from the district media centre, published by Guiyang Net on 14 May 2026, presents the 'Chunyan rainforest science demonstration point' as a result of cross-regional ecological cooperation, built with the support of the South China Botanical Garden (Chinese Academy of Sciences), and says it was completed during the district's 2025 'ecological season'. The release adds that after almost a year of care, plants brought from a great distance (a thousand li away, in its words) have taken root in Guiyang.
Architecture and engineering
The photographs published with the Guiyang Net article (14 May 2026) show a free-standing gabled structure: a dark metal frame, vertical walls and a double-pitched roof in clear glass panels, an orange sign with the two characters 春檐 on the front, and a plaque reading 'rainforest science demonstration point' (雨林生态科普示范点) in front of the facade. Inside, a gravel path runs through beds mixing moss, rockwork and potted plants, with hanging plants attached to the frame.
The release speaks of a 'glass greenhouse' (玻璃雨林温室) on the south side of the hall's main building, held at a constant 25 °C, and calls it a 'small room' (小房间). No floor area, height, glass type or builder is given. The main building, converted from existing public buildings, received low-emissivity insulated glass and rooftop photovoltaic panels according to a September 2026 profile of the site; that detail concerns the hall, not the greenhouse.
Plant collections
The release counts 60 'plant categories' (植物品类) in the greenhouse, among them twelve wild species protected at national level: five of the first class and seven of the second class. The two reprints differ on one first-class species: the Guiyang Net article, via Tencent, names 杜鹃叶山茶, 狭叶坡垒 and 仙湖苏铁, whereas the Chuangyezhe reprint names 杜鹃叶山茶, 猪血木 and 仙湖苏铁. For the second class, both texts name 丹霞梧桐, 福建观音座莲, 金花茶 and 金毛狗. Photo captions also cite 矮紫金牛, 浅粉金花, 黄虾花, 红花闭鞘姜 and 蝴蝶兰.
The setting is a humid 'micro rainforest' of tropical and subtropical plants that, according to the release, have been looked after for almost a year; plant labels are visible in the photographs.
Visiting
The greenhouse stands on the south side of the exhibition's main building, in Guanshanhu Park beside the lake of the same name; the release invites visitors to come to the exhibition to step into this 25 °C rainforest, and the exhibition and the park are open free of charge. The visit is short: the release speaks of a 'small room', yet presents it as a place for strolling, school study and awareness-raising, with family discovery activities.
It combines with the rest of the site: the indoor galleries (about 1,200 m² according to Xinhua in 2023), then the outdoor zone, organised around an ecological theatre, a sky garden, a rain garden, a landscaped waterfront and a garden of curious rocks, with spaces devoted to butterflies (already cited in 2023) and, according to the 2025 works, to water birds. The neighbouring park allows the outing to continue along the lake.
