Opened on July 4, 2015, in the Selçuklu district, the Konya Tropical Butterfly Garden is Turkey's first butterfly sanctuary. Designed by the British engineering firm Arup, the building takes the shape of a butterfly and spreads 7,600 m² beneath a glass roof, 1,200 m² of which is set aside for the free flight of nearly 45 species of tropical butterflies. A temperature of 26°C and 80% humidity are maintained year-round for more than 20,000 tropical plants belonging to 150 species.
