At Camellia Hill, a large private camellia arboretum in the south of Jeju Island, a glass greenhouse (유리 온실) complements the hydrangea tunnel in summer: a path lined with stone walls links the two, according to Korean press in June 2026. Visitors can look closely at rare hydrangea varieties gathered from several parts of the world, in a light and an arrangement that make it a photography spot, rain included.

History

Camellia Hill is a private, fee-charging arboretum in Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo, in the south of Jeju Island. Its official presentation page calls it the largest camellia arboretum in East Asia and says it was shaped by "thirty years" of devotion. The announced area is 60,000 pyeong, about 20 hectares, whereas an English-language travel page gives 172,000 m².

The glass greenhouse is attested by the press. An Ardent News article of 3 June 2026 makes the hydrangea tunnel and the glass greenhouse the heart of the summer season.

Architecture and engineering

The building is called a glass greenhouse (유리 온실). Ardent News gives a layout clue: the greenhouse stands beside the large hydrangea tunnel, and a path running along stone walls (돌담길) links the two. The same article notes that the indoor light and the arrangement of the plants make it a photography spot, and that passing through the greenhouse lets visitors see the flowers away from the full midsummer sun.

An English-language travel page (Trazy) also mentions a greenhouse that houses a café, serving camellia tea among other drinks, and a shop of handmade soaps and candles. Aerial imagery of the park shows two large glazed greenhouses; one, probably the café, is not the one the press describes.

Plant collections

According to Ardent News, the greenhouse lets visitors look closely at rare hydrangea varieties collected from different parts of the world; several varieties are displayed there, in the hydrangea theme zone that continues into the large outdoor tunnel. The hydrangea season runs from June to August.

The rest of Camellia Hill is mainly about camellias: the official site announces about 500 varieties from 80 countries, some 6,000 trees, flowering at staggered times from autumn to spring, together with six of the eight types of fragrant camellia and about 250 species native to Jeju. These figures apply to the whole arboretum, not to the greenhouse.

Visiting

The greenhouse lies in the hydrangea zone, beside the large tunnel, and is visited with the arboretum's admission. Ardent News points out that the covered section allows visitors to enjoy the flowers without the full summer sun and that early-morning visitors readily make it their first stop; it also sees it as a shelter for photography on rainy days. Allow extra time for the camellia paths, which fill most of the site.

The hydrangeas flower from June to August. The park opens every day, with hours that change by season. As the crow flies, Yeomiji Botanical Garden, already in this atlas, is about 6 km away.
