Completed in 2020 by the Colombian firm DARP, the Tropicario at the 'José Celestino Mutis' Bogotá Botanical Garden is a 3,787 m² circuit of greenhouses whose volumes rise from a platform conceived as a recreated wetland, echoing a Bogotá savanna that has lost nearly 98% of its marshland in a century. At 2,600 meters of altitude, the building sets glass, concrete, and passive climate systems in dialogue to recreate five endangered Colombian ecosystems, arranged around more than seventy native wax palms. It has won several international sustainable-architecture awards, including the Bienal Internacional de Arquitectura in 2024.
