History
The « 생각을 담는 정원 » garden was laid out in 2022 by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (한국토지주택공사) and the national rail infrastructure agency (국가철도공단), which made use of public land (국유지). The site lies at 264-9 Maehodong, along the walkways of the Maehocheon, the Namcheon and the Geumhogang. The official blog of Suseong district, dated 4 March 2024, presents it as a free botanical garden. The official blog of the city of Daegu, dated 18 February 2025, places it on a site between the Cheoneulsan hill and the Maehocheon stream. In February 2024 the district announced that a 행운목 (called 드라세나 맛상게아나 in the article) was producing numerous pink buds, from which small white flowers emerge. The year 2022 refers to the creation of the garden that contains the greenhouse.
Architecture and engineering
The building is a « 유리온실 » (glass greenhouse). The Daegu city blog refers to plants inside the « 실내 유리온실 » (indoor glass greenhouse), and the February 2024 press article says the rare species are grown in a greenhouse kept above 20 °C. Inside, an earth path (흙길) lets visitors walk among the plants, and cushions and benches are placed for resting. The district blog says the greenhouse holds mid-sized to large trees (중대형 수목). Outside, a small timber bridge leads to a wooden building called « 그린하우스 » (per the welfarehello reprint), and a bamboo walk (대나무 숲길) runs beside the garden. A sculpture called « 뚜비 » completes the outdoor route.
Plant collections
The Suseong district blog (March 2024) describes palms in the greenhouse, along with papaya trees (파파야), coffee trees (커피나무) and bananas known as « 삼척 바나나 », with about 70 species and 150 plants among flowers and tropical trees. It names the rare plants 행운목, 덴마크 무궁화 and 카프라. The February 2024 press article adds 연화수 and 캐리안드라. The blog also lists rosemary (로즈마리), bougainvillea (부겐베리아), syngonium (싱고니움) and poinsettia (포인세티아), used for Christmas decoration. The official Daegu post of 2025 presents the place as a mix of tropical and subtropical plants, many of them uncommon. Outdoors, the collection includes roses and lavender, which are wrapped in rice straw (볏짚) in winter.
Visiting
The garden is at 264-9 Maehodong. According to the official Daegu post (2025), it lies 1.4 km from exit 6 of Sinmae station. Admission is free and open to all. The Suseong district blog (2024) gives 10:00 to 18:00 for the greenhouse, and the 2025 post says the site closes every Monday. Pets are admitted if they are carried in arms. Food is not allowed inside, though simple drinks are. The toilets are in a white building on the hill above the outdoor flower beds. A visit can combine the greenhouse, the bamboo walk and the timber bridge, and the 2025 post compares the place with the Daegu Arboretum, which is larger. The hours come from sources dated 2024 and 2025, so they should be confirmed with the district before a visit.
