In the city of Jeongeup, the local forestry cooperative has set up a glass greenhouse called "Hope Garden" (희망정원) inside its distribution centre. Glazed on all four sides, it reopened on 28 June 2021 after large tropical plants were planted, so that the local press describes an exotic indoor forest. Subtropical, indoor, flowering and air-purifying plants are shown and sold there all year round, and visitors can have tea among them, on the ground floor or on the mezzanine.

History
The "Hope Garden" greenhouse (희망정원) belongs to the Jeongeup Forestry Cooperative, in the city of Jeongeup in Jeonbuk Province, which set it up in its forest-products distribution centre at 60 Myeongdeok 1-gil, in the Suseong-dong district. The cooperative's website lists it within this centre, alongside the local-food shop and the "teasu:m" cafe, created together with the centre to offer a place of rest to members and residents. A blogger described the tree market and the greenhouse cafe in 2018 as recently opened, which only sets a lower bound: the greenhouse existed by then.
On 28 June 2021 the cooperative reopened it after a refit that the Jeonbuk Ilbo and the Jeonmin Ilbo reported at once: large tropical plants were planted and the plants rearranged so that, in the words of the cooperative's chairman, residents and members worn out by the Covid-19 pandemic could recover there. The press stresses the impression of an exotic indoor forest under the transparent glass walls. Outside, the cooperative also runs a "tree market" in spring and autumn, selling young plants.
The official website, read in October 2026, presents the greenhouse in the present tense, as a rest space for the people of Jeongeup.
Architecture and engineering
The building is glazed on all four sides: the June 2021 press speaks of a greenhouse "made entirely of transparent glass". Two photographs published by the newspapers show a pitched glass roof carried by a dark frame mixing metal members and timber rafters, glass walls with dark mullions and a brick-paved floor. A 2021 blogger calls it huge and tall; another, in 2018, feels as if in a botanical garden.
The greenhouse has an upper floor. A staircase leads to a mezzanine of tables from which the whole greenhouse can be seen, which a 2018 visitor also describes, mentioning individual attic-style spaces. According to this visitor, the area under that terrace is the only place in the greenhouse with a solid roof: darker, it suits the succulents displayed there poorly. The cafe is on the ground floor, the greenhouse lying inside it, and the press notes that corners for taking tea are arranged all around among the plants.
According to the same 2018 blog, the greenhouse stands behind the cooperative's building, and the open-air tree market can be seen through the glass.
Plant collections
The cooperative's website announces subtropical plants, foliage house plants, flowering plants and several kinds of air-purifying plants, shown and sold all year round. The 2021 press adds wild plants and mentions the large tropical plants planted during the refit. On the press photographs one can make out palms, hanging baskets of pink and red flowering plants along the glass roof and a globular cactus in the foreground.
A 2018 blogger notes hanging tillandsias, a corner of succulents and house plants, seedlings of seasonal flowers and a shelf of pottery, with potting offered on purchase; another, in 2021, mentions seeds. Outside, the tree market offers fruit trees, among them the plumcot, a cross between plum and apricot according to that blog. The press also reports that visitors can have a plant they bring from home repotted there.
Visiting
The greenhouse lies at the back of the teasu:m cafe, in the forest-products distribution centre, behind the cooperative's building; according to a 2018 blog, a sign at the entrance of the centre points left to the cafe and the greenhouse, right to the local-food shop. A 2021 visitor stayed about an hour. Jeongeup station is three minutes away by car or about twenty minutes on foot, and the car park is in front of the cafe, near the rear gate of a girls' high school.
The open-air tree market is held in spring and autumn, according to the cooperative's website, which adds that the cafe plans small concerts and art exhibitions. The greenhouse is above all a plant shop and a place for a break.
