Funded by the Botanical Society of South Africa, this greenhouse allows Kirstenbosch to grow and display plants native to regions far too arid or too cold to survive outdoors in the garden. The main house, dominated by a large baobab, recreates nine biomes of southern Africa with their original rocks and soils, from the Namib Desert to the Karoo and the coastal fynbos. Four corner pavilions round out the complex with specialized collections of stone plants, welwitschias, bulbs, and ferns, within this UNESCO World Heritage-listed garden.
