At the western tip of Seoul, Pureun Arboretum, opened on 5 June 2013, has a crescent-shaped, south-facing glass greenhouse: the KB Forest Education Center. Donated to the city by KB Financial Group, it combines an exhibition space for plants from around the world with educational areas. The building stands at the end of the arboretum route. The Guro District website and 2026 press count it among the facilities in operation.

History
Pureun Arboretum is the City of Seoul's first arboretum project. Decided in 2003, it was set up from 2005 on about a hundred thousand square metres around the Hang-dong reservoir, an area of paddy fields and farmland under greenbelt designation since 1971. Land compensation began in 2006, construction in October 2009, and the arboretum opened on 5 June 2013; the city's release gives a total cost of 51.8 billion won, with around half of the building works funded by the Korea Forest Service.
The KB Forest Education Center is a gift from KB Financial Group: its representatives attended the opening ceremony, and the City of Seoul's media portal states that it was handed to the city through the free-transfer procedure (기부채납). The 2013 release presents it as a multipurpose greenhouse combining a botanical display and an educational facility, with 63 programmes a year: plant lectures, gardening workshops, organic farming and a gardening school. The greenhouse features on the route from the 2013 opening.
The arboretum was designated Seoul's first public arboretum in 2018, according to a 2026 article.
Architecture and engineering
The greenhouse is a crescent facing due south: the City of Seoul explains that this layout aims to save energy. The building combines an educational space and a crescent-shaped exhibition space; a 2013 article calls it a « 유리온실 » (glass greenhouse). The entrance is at the back; in front lie a lawn and a photo spot. Public toilets are installed inside.
The 2013 release calls it a « 다목적 온실 » (multipurpose greenhouse), where the botanical garden and the educational facility share the building.
Plant collections
Official and press descriptions speak of plants from around the world: "useful resource plants" from various regions according to a 2013 article, rare and tropical plants according to the City of Seoul's portal in 2024. Labels give each plant's scientific name, native range and characteristics, according to the district blog. Flowers and cacti can be seen there in mid-winter; a February 2023 article notes red flowers right at the entrance.
A 2024 blog names, among the plants seen, 백정화 (an evergreen shrub of the madder family, used for hedges), 호주매화 (an Australian shrub whose flowers are compared to plum blossom) and 돌단풍 (a perennial of rock crevices). The 2013 educational programme also mentioned courses on native plants and on gardens made with recycled materials.
Visiting
The greenhouse stands at the far end of the arboretum route; one can walk there along the arboretum path or follow the old Hang-dong railway line that borders the site. In front of the building, the lawn and photo spot are laid out for pictures. Local articles recommend it mainly in winter, as a warm refuge, and for children.
The visit combines with the Hang-dong reservoir and its boardwalk, the Hang-dong forest library, recently opened, and the Hang-dong railway (항동 철길).
