Opened in December 1977 at the Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens, this geodesic dome, 28 meters in diameter and 9 meters high, stands apart from traditional Victorian greenhouses with its resolutely modernist triangulated structure. It shelters a dense tropical jungle of palms, aroids, heliconias, and epiphytes, recreating a humid microclimate within an already warm subtropical climate. A separate climate-controlled section is devoted to tropical food plants, offering a glimpse of the crops grown across the equatorial world.
