Tucked away in the Fitzroy Gardens, this small Art Deco gem with Spanish Mission influences opened in 1930, just as Melbourne was going through one of the darkest economic periods in its history. Unlike the great Victorian iron-and-glass greenhouses, its architecture is restrained and symmetrical, arranged in four rooms where the floral displays change with the seasons. Thoroughly restored, it remains one of the most popular free attractions in central Melbourne and is heritage-listed locally for its historical value.
