USC's H. Leslie Hoffman Hall of Business Administration is an eight-level, cast-in-place concrete tower on the university's Los Angeles campus. I. M. Pei's firm designed it in 1965. It housed the university's business library until 2016, the year its faculty offices were refitted.
History
The building is named after H. Leslie Hoffman. I. M. Pei's firm designed it in 1965. It housed the Roy P. Crocker Business Library, which moved to Fertitta Hall in August 2016 as the Gaughan & Tiberti Library.
A renovation by the KFA firm, completed in 2007, replaced every window and upgraded the electrical and mechanical systems. In 2016 the Chu + Gooding office redesigned the lobby and three floors of faculty offices, seeking to fit in as many offices as possible without making them claustrophobic and to give each floor an identity of its own.
Architecture
The eight-level tower is built of cast-in-place concrete and keeps a brutalist character. Its concrete mass, so striking from outside, limits how far daylight reaches inside: the 2016 renovation sought to draw light deep into the building with fritted glass, mirrors and backlit surfaces.
