At the end of the barrier-free path that climbs from the management office of the Baegya recreation forest, in Eumseong, the county-run arboretum holds a glass greenhouse (유리온실, also called the 온실관) where the county says it preserves and shows warm-temperate plants native to Korea's south coast and Jeju Island. The county already shows it in April 2018; a 2025 visitor walked in free of charge and found it modest in size.

History

The Baegya estate consists of a recreation forest (백야자연휴양림, with forest lodges, composite cabins, an auto-camping ground and a guest lodge) run by Eumseong County, and a neighbouring arboretum. The arboretum's official page, last updated on 5 January 2024, lists themed gardens (vines, the Jara rock garden, a rose garden) and a glass greenhouse devoted to warm-temperate plants native to the south coast and Jeju. A post on the county's official blog dated 17 April 2018 already shows this greenhouse and a "greenhouse garden" (온실원) whose trees and plants had stayed green all winter: it therefore existed in spring 2018.

Architecture and engineering

It is a glazed building (유리온실) that visitors call the 온실관. The county blog (2018) finds it worthy of a music video when it comes into view along the path; an April 2025 visitor writes that entry costs nothing and that its size is "not very large". In front of the building stand public toilets, and steps on the left lead up to the forest track, from which the greenhouse garden (온실원) and the building itself are seen from above.

The approach passes a small erosion-control dam (사방댐) below, and the same visitor mentions a library along the way. On aerial imagery, the only small ribbed-glass-roofed building visible around the arboretum stands at the arboretum's official address.

Plant collections

The county presents a greenhouse where warm-temperate plants (난대) native to the southern coast and to Jeju Island are preserved and can be observed. The 2018 post mentions the trees and plants of the "greenhouse garden", which stayed green through the winter and looked livelier in spring. A message in the official photo gallery, signed by a former employee of the estate (March 2021), notes that a miseon-namu (미선나무) flowers behind the greenhouse, announcing spring; this shrub grows outdoors, not inside the building.

In the rest of the arboretum, the official page names a vine garden, the Jara rock garden and a rose garden; the 2018 post adds animal sculptures, a small ecological wetland, a foot-reflexology path and a small flower garden.

Visiting

The greenhouse is reached on foot from the recreation forest's car park, by way of the management office and then the barrier-free path (무장애나눔길); one visitor timed a 7.6 km loop combining the barrier-free path, the greenhouse and the forest track at 1 hour 50 minutes. Access is free, parking included, according to the county (2018) and that visitor (2025). Ask the county's forestry team before travelling.

Spring is the best-described season, with cherry trees at the entrance, peach blossom and the miseon-namu behind the greenhouse. Above, the forest track runs below the Hannam-Geumbuk ridge trail (한남금북정맥), noted by the same visitor.
