Оранжерея Ботанічного саду Львівського університету

Founded in 1852 by Hipolit Łobarzewski on the grounds of the former Trinitarian fathers' garden, the botanical garden of Lviv's Ivan Franko University acquired its current greenhouse complex in 1974, still in operation today. Across 1,250 square meters and beneath a glass roof reaching 24 meters high, it holds a remarkable collection of tropical and subtropical plants, some of whose specimens rank among the garden's elders: an Agathis about 150 years old, a century-old monkey puzzle tree, and a 125-year-old Canary Island date palm. The greenhouse also holds a collection of 70 orchid species and hybrids, dominated by the popular phalaenopsis. Through the wartime winters marked by power cuts since 2022, the garden's team managed, unlike other Ukrainian institutions, to preserve its entire historic collection. Reopened to the public in May 2024 after a period of restrictions, this greenhouse remains a quiet sanctuary of biodiversity at the heart of a city marked by history.
