Oman Botanic Garden

On the campus of Sultan Qaboos University, some thirty kilometers from Muscat, the Oman Botanic Garden covers 500 hectares devoted exclusively to the sultanate's native flora. Its architectural centerpiece, designed by Grimshaw with engineering by Arup, consists of two steel-and-glass arched biomes — one for the northern mountains, the other for the southern ones — rising toward the center to accommodate the tallest trees, under spans reaching 75 meters. Launched in 2007, construction was completed in late 2025 with the handover of the site to Muscat Municipality, ahead of a full public opening. It claims the title of the largest botanical garden on the Arabian Peninsula, with around 1,450 native plant species, a nursery of 70,000 plants and a seed bank of five million units.
