Tropical Montane Orchidetum (Cool House)

Opened on April 3, 2021, within the National Orchid Garden at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, the Tropical Montane Orchidetum brings together more than 1,150 species and hybrids of orchids from high-altitude tropical forests, an unprecedented concentration in a single location anywhere in the world. Its technical heart, the Sembcorp Cool House, artificially maintains a temperature of 16 to 23°C to recreate the conditions of montane forests found between 1,000 and 2,000 meters of altitude, housing Asia's largest collection of high-altitude orchids. Three renovated exhibition pavilions are linked by a winding trail, the 'Secret Ravine,' which immerses visitors in a recreated vegetated gorge. The project, funded to the tune of 35 million Singapore dollars, including 10 million donated by the Sembcorp group, began in 2017. It complements, without duplicating, the city-state's botanical offerings already represented by the domes of Gardens by the Bay.
