History
Launched in 1992 under the direction of Seiji Ozawa, the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto, renamed the Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival in 2015, presented Alban Berg's opera Wozzeck in 2004, on 29 and 31 August and on 2, 5 and 7 September. Ozawa conducted, Peter Mussbach directed, and the set was entrusted to the architect Tadao Ando.
The performances took place in the main hall of the Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre (まつもと市民芸術館), which opened that year; it has hosted the festival's operas ever since.
