History

The Samseonsan Arboretum lies in the Godae-myeon district of Dangjin, at 79 Samseonsan-sumogwon-gil according to the city's official site. An article in OhmyNews dated 19 June 2019, signed by a citizen contributor, states that the arboretum opened in April 2017. The same article illustrates the greenhouse with a photo captioned « 유리온실 » (glass greenhouse) and describes plants from the Mediterranean, Asia and Africa growing inside. In August 2026 the South Chungcheong provincial portal, which visited the site on 27 August, presents the « 난대온실 » as a building of the arboretum. The city of Dangjin's page publishes a photo of the greenhouse, under the heading « 시설 소개 » (introduction to the facilities).

Architecture and engineering

The greenhouse is first described through its walls. The official photograph published by South Chungcheong province, captioned « 난대온실 », shows glazed panels through which trunks and foliage can be seen inside. A 2019 article calls it a « 유리온실 » (glass greenhouse) and shows it in the same view as the visitor centre. The interior floor consists of paved slabs edged with stone and of planted beds, both visible in the same photograph. The official text calls the greenhouse « 아담한 » (compact, cosy), which suggests a modest volume.

Plant collections

The Chungnam portal (August 2026) says the greenhouse holds subtropical plants. The 2019 article cites plants native to the Mediterranean, Asia and Africa. The species named by the portal grow elsewhere in the arboretum, around the greenhouse: crape myrtles (배롱나무) at the entrance, hydrangeas (수국) along a path, water lilies (수련) and lotuses (연) in the wetland, gaura in the butterfly garden, lilyturf (liriope) under the pines, Syrian hibiscus (무궁화), presented as the national flower, along with birches, maples and persimmons. The 2026 visitor notes that the interior of the greenhouse felt more pleasant than the outside.

Visiting

The greenhouse is visited along the arboretum route, which links several themed areas: the butterfly garden, the wetland, the hydrangea path, a garden devoted to the Korean peninsula and its rocks, and a suspension bridge (출렁다리). The provincial portal, which visited the site at the end of August 2026, stresses the summer planting, such as hydrangeas, lotuses and gaura, and then the autumn planting, with miscanthus, maples and birches. The greenhouse is an indoor stop, in contrast with the open-air spaces. Opening hours and admission fees are not repeated in this section; they appear in the status field of the entry.
