Inaugurated on June 7, 1995, by King Carl XVI Gustaf, this greenhouse complex designed by architect Per-Rune Semrén takes its name from a bequest by glass wholesaler and botany enthusiast Edvard Andersson. Across 3,000 m², of which 1,600 m² are open to the public, with a ceiling height reaching 14 meters, the vast glass panels rest on a steel framework that gives them an appearance of floating lightness. The building recreates five Mediterranean-type climate zones from around the world and houses about 6,000 plant species; its technical achievement earned it the European Steel Design Award in the very year it opened.
