Approved by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1899 and completed in 1900 under Professor Veit Wittrock's direction, this cast-iron domed greenhouse was designed by architect Ivan Örtendahl to house the giant Victoria waterlily, named after the queen of the same name. It shelters leaves that can reach 2.5 meters in diameter and bear up to 100 kg when the weight is evenly distributed, alongside lotuses, papyrus and mangroves. Thoroughly restored in the 1980s, it is today protected as part of Sweden's state built heritage.
