Erected in 1889 under the direction of superintendent John Cameron, the Lalbagh Glass House deliberately echoes London's Crystal Palace, with cast-iron pillars imported from Glasgow. Expanded in 1935 with steel produced locally by Mysore's young steel industry, it has since 1892 hosted two major annual flower shows, for Republic Day and Independence Day. It remains the garden's most photographed monument.
