Completed in 1999 at the Tallinn Botanical Garden, the Palmimaja is the work of Estonian architects Vilen Künnapu and Ain Padrik, leading figures of the country's postmodern architecture. Its glazed tower silhouette, designed to recreate a tropical climate under Estonia's northern latitudes, was shortlisted for the title of best glass-and-concrete building of its completion year. Over time, the structure suffered from water leaks and cracking, prompting a full renovation completed in June 2021 at a cost of around €2.2 million.
