The Hyakudan-en is a garden of the Awaji Yumebutai complex, designed by Tadao Ando: one hundred flower beds laid out in tiers on the slope, with a cascade along one side. On a clear day the view reaches beyond the park to Osaka Bay. It is planted with daisy-family plants from around the world. The complex opened in March 2000.

History
The Hyakudan-en (百段苑) is part of Awaji Yumebutai, a complex laid out by Hyōgo Prefecture where earth had been dug out to build artificial islands in Osaka Bay, such as that of Kansai Airport. Tadao Ando drew the overall plan and designed its facilities, this garden among them. The complex opened in March 2000, at the same time as the Japan Flora 2000 flower exposition.
Architecture
The garden lines up one hundred flower beds in tiers along the mountain slope, and a cascade runs along one side of it. On a clear day, Osaka Bay can be seen beyond the park. A lift serves the entrance of the garden.
Use today
The garden is planted with daisy-family plants from around the world. Flowers bloom from spring to autumn; in winter the soil is left to rest.
Visiting
The Hyakudan-en is open free of charge from 7 am to 10 pm, with no closing day; its lift runs from 7 am to 6 pm.
