« A ring of glass built around a former quarry. »
Built around a former quarry and one of Shanghai's hills, the Chenshan garden arranges its greenhouses along a continuous landscaped ring that encircles a lake and a series of themed island gardens. The central lake was dug to supply the earth needed to raise the surrounding gardens, and constructed wetlands there filter the water naturally. Inaugurated in 2010, the complex combines botanical research, ecological water management and an educational visitor trail.
