Four glass pyramids designed by architect Peter Hemingway have punctuated Edmonton's flat horizon since 1976, funded by a gift from the Muttart Foundation. Three of them permanently recreate tropical, temperate and arid biomes, while the fourth changes theme with the seasons. Renovated for $6.3 million in 2009, the conservatory remains one of Canada's most recognizable architectural landmarks.
