Inaugurated on July 23, 1999, within the botanical garden of the National Museum of Natural Science, this glass-and-steel dome rises 31 meters and spans 56 meters in diameter, making it one of the largest greenhouse structures in East Asia. Beneath it, a complete tropical rainforest ecosystem is recreated, with its canopy, lianas and layered plant communities, right in the middle of Taichung's dense urban fabric. The surrounding botanical garden covers 4.5 hectares, pairing this main greenhouse with outdoor areas devoted to local flora.
