Beyond the red Furusato-bashi bridge, the Flower and Green Plaza of the municipal Shimin Fureai no Sato park in Osakasayama brings together a squirrel park and an urban greenery botanical garden (緑化植物園) housed in a glazed building. The city presents about 70 species of tropical plants there, including palms, in a rainforest atmosphere sustained by a ceiling mister; a small exhibition of mounted butterflies occupies the upper level. A visitor's photographs from 2011 show a curved roof of large glazed panels on metal ribs.

History
The greenhouse belongs to the municipal park of Osakasayama known as Shimin Fureai no Sato ("citizens' contact village"). According to a March 2019 report by the radio station FM Osaka, the complex has existed since 1994 (Heisei 6) and was originally conceived as a youth-training facility used for the outdoor activities of the city's primary and junior high schools; it later gained a squirrel park, a campsite, an adventure ground and tennis courts. The urban greenery botanical garden (緑化植物園) stands in the part called the "Flower and Green Plaza", across the red Furusato-bashi bridge, together with the squirrel park.
Only one date touches the building: a visiting blog, whose photographs date from May 2011, reports that a "mini insect museum" had just opened on a 5 May in the botanical garden, without writing the year. According to FM Osaka, the butterflies displayed on the upper level are specimens donated by residents.
Architecture and engineering
Two photographs published in May 2011 on a visiting blog show, on the exterior, a curved roof of large glazed panels, divided by regular metal ribs, which comes down onto glass curtain walls with fine mullions; a cylindrical stair tower, also largely glazed, rises against a white volume. Inside, a steel frame overhangs the planted space, and the blog notes a ceiling mister that makes the air humid and heavy.
The building's outline in OpenStreetMap, taken from the map of the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, encloses about 450 m² on the ground; this is a measurement on the map, not a figure from the operator. A path lined with wooden posts runs through the planting, with rocks beside the walkway. The stair landing serves as the insect room.
Plant collections
The city announces about 70 species of tropical plants on display, enough to give the impression of a rainforest; no species is named on its page. Japanese Wikipedia mentions palms, and a February 2024 visitor reports large houseplants and cacti in a building that stayed warm in the cold season. In the 2011 photographs, a tree with stilt roots, ferns and potted plants make up the understorey; a 2023 visitor notes that the plants carry explanatory labels.
The upper level holds the insect room: the 2011 blog describes butterflies collected in Osakasayama and butterflies from around the world there; in 2019 the staff said the specimens had been donated by residents, and visitors in 2023 and 2025 saw mounted butterflies there.
Visiting
The greenhouse stands beyond the red Furusato-bashi bridge, next to the squirrel park, where visitors can feed Taiwanese squirrels and guinea pigs. The building is small: a January 2025 visitor found it pleasant but rather small. The city page says that the botanical garden and the squirrel park are free to enter, while the plaza itself is charged from junior high school age.
Most visitors come by car (free parking) or by the city's loop bus, stop "Fureai no Sato", from Osakasayama-shi and Kongō stations. The park also has a campsite, an adventure ground and tennis courts; a local website places the park's cherry blossom between late March and early April, without official confirmation.
