The successor to an original 1930s palm house, the Palmu māja at the University of Latvia's Botanical Garden was rebuilt in 1972 and then given a thorough final renovation, reopening in December 2025. It now rises 24 meters over 550 m² of floor space, making it, according to its managers, the largest and most modern tropical plant complex in the Baltic states. Among its 286 subtropical and tropical species and cultivars, a palm tree given in 1939 by Latvian composer Jāzeps Vītols still grows.
