Tadao Ando designed the building of Nagao Municipal Elementary School, in Kita Ward, Kobe. The school, named after the former village of Nagao, moved into it in April 2007, in another district: because of the depopulation of Nagao and the city's finances, it was relocated keeping only its name, rather than a new school being opened.
History
Nagao Municipal Elementary School (神戸市立長尾小学校) is a public school in Kita Ward, Kobe. It is named after the village of Nagao, which was incorporated into Kobe in 1955. In 2003 the children of the district where the school was to move outnumbered those of Nagao for the first time.
A new school in that district was considered, but because of the depopulation of Nagao and the City of Kobe's financial situation, it was decided to keep only the name and move the school there. The building, designed by Tadao Ando, has housed it since April 2007.
