History

The hospital opened on 1 June 2007 in Yodoe, in the municipality of Yonago. It was designed by Tadao Ando.

Architecture

The building, of reinforced concrete, has three levels. It looks south-east toward Mount Daisen; to the north stretches a broad pine wood, beyond which lie Miho Bay and the Sea of Japan. For rehabilitation, it offers a dedicated space on each floor, a gallery that can be walked endlessly in a loop, and slopes and steps left on purpose as obstacles.

Use today

It is a rehabilitation hospital serving the local community, with orthopaedics, rehabilitation and internal medicine among its specialities: teams from several professions support the recovery of inpatients and of people seen as outpatients.

Visiting

It is a working hospital: its architecture is seen from the outside.
