Enlarged Victorian conservatory with four climate zones under one roof
« The historic conservatory has nearly doubled in size and now includes a permanent butterfly house, open year-round. »

Opened on 23 May 2026 after two years of work and $31 million of investment, this extension turns the existing conservatory into four distinct climate environments: the former houses became Mediterranean and desert rooms, while new tropical and subtropical houses were added. The project includes 'Butterflies Bloom', a permanent multi-level butterfly house. Around the building, 7.5 acres of new gardens were created, including a butterfly-shaped meadow made up of 70% Virginia native plants.
