Krohn Conservatory

Opened in 1933 in Eden Park to replace the small municipal greenhouses dating from 1894, the Krohn Conservatory adopts an Art Deco style unusual for a glass building, with a central nave rising to a Gothic arch 14 meters high. Renamed in 1937 in honor of Irwin M. Krohn, parks commissioner for several decades, it now displays themed collections: palms, orchids, desert plants, bonsai, and a rainforest complete with an artificial waterfall. The conservatory, which draws around 200,000 visitors a year, also serves as a reception venue for weddings and private events. It remains one of the great historic conservatories still operating in the American Midwest.
