Opened on 22 November 2024, the West Conservatory is the centrepiece of the 'Longwood Reimagined' redevelopment, designed by the New York practice WEISS/MANFREDI. Its pleated roof and branching columns open and close with the weather, blurring the line between inside and out. It holds Mediterranean plants from six regions of the world — agaves, aloes, cypresses, citrus — with around sixty permanent species and close to 90 more rotated seasonally. It is also the first time Longwood has shown aquatic plants under glass, set across three planted islands linked by bridges and canals.
