Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens Conservatory

Designed by the firm Lord & Burnham, then the world's leading name in greenhouse architecture, this conservatory opened around 1900 in South Park, a park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Its three-domed glass silhouette draws directly on London's Crystal Palace and the Palm House at Kew Gardens, making it today one of only two surviving examples of this type in North America. The building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, houses tropical plant collections assembled over more than a century. Alongside fewer than a dozen major Victorian conservatories still standing in the United States, it remains a rare witness to the golden age of iron-and-glass greenhouses.
