At the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Steinhardt Conservatory was completed in 1988 by the firm Davis, Brody & Associates to replace the old Victorian greenhouses, which had become beyond repair. The 7,900 m² complex takes the form of a cluster of glass pavilions linked by underground galleries, while still echoing certain architectural cues from the garden's historic buildings. The Palm House, the centerpiece, whose original wooden frame was too deteriorated to save, was entirely rebuilt while preserving its architectural character; the conservatory is also home to the C.V. Starr Bonsai Museum.
