Grandes Serres du Jardin des Plantes

Rohault de Fleury's first two pavilions, now known as the New Caledonia Glasshouse and the History of Plants Glasshouse, rank among France's earliest large-scale greenhouses built with a metal framework and steam heating. The painter Henri Rousseau, who never once left the country, came here to study exotic plants for his imagined jungles, including 'The Snake Charmer.' The Desert Glasshouse, added in 2010, now completes the ensemble, which is listed as a historic monument.
