« One of the largest temperate urban glasshouses built in Europe in a century, framed entirely in glue-laminated larch. »

Opened in May 2003 by Queen Elizabeth II as part of the regeneration of Sheffield city centre, this free public glasshouse was designed by Pringle Richards Sharratt with engineers Buro Happold. Its arches of glue-laminated larch are left chemically untreated, so the timber greys naturally over time. It holds more than 2,000 plants from around the world, with floral displays changed several times a year. The building has won a RIBA Award and a Green Flag Award.
