« Founded by former court gardeners turned entrepreneurs. »

Funded by private subscription at the initiative of gardeners recently let go from the Nassau ducal court, the Palmengarten opened in 1871 under landscape architect Heinrich Siesmayer. Taken over by the city of Frankfurt in 1931, it passed under American administration after the Second World War before returning to its rebuilding city. Its modern Tropicarium today brings together fourteen themed greenhouses, from mangroves to cloud forests.
