Opened in 1999 in the Wilhelma zoological and botanical garden, this glasshouse was designed by the Stuttgart practice Auer Weber as a single-span hall 66 metres long. Visitors follow a bark-strewn path through more than 350 plant species representing the Amazon rainforest, with temperatures held between 24 and 28°C and humidity at 80%. A 2009 renovation replaced the original glazing with a special glass that lets through more of the ultraviolet light the plants need.
